CROP UPDATES

STRAWBERRIES

Santa Maria

Quality: Fields remain extremely wet and muddy, and there is a high likelihood of increased decay and pin rot as the fruit continues to develop under these conditions. Crews are working quickly to strip compromised fruit and salvage what remains, including green fruit that is still maturing.

Volume: Production is currently in a post-peak pattern for both conventional and organic strawberries, a trend that appears consistent across the valley.

Pack Counts: Conventional: 22-26; Organic: 24-28.

Watsonville/Salinas

Quality: The impact of the rain has been significant. Growers still active in the fields are reporting that more than 50%+ of the fruit is being culled due to damage.

Volume: Production estimates for the week are uncertain due to the weather.

Pack Counts: Conventional: 24-28; Organic: 30-32;

RASPBERRIES

Mexico

Quality: Temperatures across the growing regions are beginning to improve, with mostly sunny days and partial cloud cover expected. This shift in weather is anticipated to positively impact both fruit quality and production. While storm forecasts remain active, the probability of additional precipitation has dropped below 50%, offering hope that the negative effects of recent rains may begin to subside.

Volume: Conventional raspberry production continues to trend upward. Our production estimates should be increasing in the coming weeks overall.

Watsonville

Quality: Quality challenges continue this week due to the weather challenges, with fruit showing signs of softness.

Volume: Raspberry production is steadily winding down.

BLACKBERRIES

Volume: Blackberry production is trending downward as the season passes its peak.

Watsonville

Quality: Some minor quality issues have been observed.

Volume: Blackberry production is in their late-season crops, which is helping to maintain quality and volume. Weekly production is projected to remain consistent at 12,000 to 16,000 crates over the next two weeks.
